Cyrillic and .укр

Cyrillic domains and .укр

You can type a Ukrainian name in Cyrillic — we transliterate it ourselves per KMU-2010 and show a matching .укр line alongside it.

How it works

Unicode and punycode

A Cyrillic name in the address bar is punycode under the hood (e.g. xn--80a...). We show the familiar Cyrillic form and handle the rest.

Transliteration per KMU-2010

The official standard, not an arbitrary letter swap: “щ” → “shch”, “ю” → “iu” or “yu” at the start of a word, and so on.

Mixed alphabets — a warning

A Latin “a” and a Cyrillic “а” look identical but are different characters and a different domain. If a name mixes alphabets, we warn about it directly.

Why .укр has no price or cart

The .укр zone exists and has 4,285 registered domains, but our accreditation doesn’t cover it. We show it as a line next to the Cyrillic version of a name, with a status in words, and offer “Watch”, with no price and no “buy” button.

Common questions about Cyrillic

Why warn about “mixed alphabets” — aren’t they just letters?

Because it’s the basis of phishing: a domain that looks like yours but has one Cyrillic letter instead of a Latin one is a different site. We show this directly in search results.

Will .укр become available to buy?

Possibly, after we get access to .in.ua and hear back from .укр’s administrator about accreditation terms. Press “Watch” next to the .укр line to find out first.
