Frequently asked

How accurate is the city?

Country, provider and autonomous system number are exact. The city is approximate: for mobile internet and large providers it's often the city of the provider's node, not yours. We look it up in our own copy of the open DB-IP database — your address isn't sent anywhere. We don't show reverse DNS (rDNS): that would mean handing your address to someone else's DNS server.

Why does it show only one address — IPv4 or IPv6?

Your device may have both, but the request reached us by one specific path — we show that one, not a guessed second address.

Do you log visitors’ IP addresses?

No, not for this tool: it only returns the address of the request, without writing it anywhere for storage.
