How to set up domain mail with Google Workspace
- 01Verify the domain in Google WorkspaceAdd the verification TXT record Google gives you when connecting the domain — this proves you control the DNS.
- 02Add the MX recordsPoint the domain’s mail to Google’s servers — they replace any previous MX records.
- 03Set up SPFThe SPF TXT record authorises Google’s servers to send mail on your domain’s behalf; without it, mail lands in spam more often.
- 04Turn on DKIM and add DMARCTurn on DKIM signing in the Google Workspace console and add a DMARC record — start with a lenient
p=nonepolicy to see reports first.
| Record | Value (example) |
|---|---|
| MX | ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM (priority 1) |
| TXT (SPF) | v=spf1 include:_spf.google.com ~all |
| TXT (DKIM) | the value is issued individually per domain in the Google Workspace console |
| TXT (DMARC) | v=DMARC1; p=none; rua=mailto:dmarc@example.com.ua |
FAQ
Can the old mail keep running alongside it?
No, MX records point to a single mail receiver for the whole domain; running two mail systems on one domain in parallel isn’t supported by the standard.
Why is mail landing in spam after the move?
The most common cause is a missing or wrong SPF or DKIM record — check them with a mail diagnostic tool.
